The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is the biggest change happened recently in Indian education system post-independence, the education system was indeed in need for this change too, placing high importance on holistic development of students, introducing interconnected multidisciplinary subjects, and mainstreaming physical education (PE) into academics was actually the need of the hour. The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is a360 degree change in India's education system, with increasing access of education at all levels, including higher education. This research paper peeps into the possible impacts and prospects offered by NEP 2020 for promoting Physical Education (PE) specifically in Indian higher education system. Being conscious of the policy's focus on comprehensive development, interdisciplinary methods, and convergence of sports and physical fitness, the paper examines how NEP 2020 may be used to reintroduce PE programs, promote student well-being, and establish a sports and physical activity culture at universities and colleges in more vigour and impact. By reviewing the major principles of the policy and their applicability to PE in academic institutions, along with the prospective challenges and finding and adopting best international practices, the paper outlines strategies for successful implementation of NEP 2020 in the field of physical education in higher education with the aim of having a healthier and developed future citizen of the country.
