Effect of sequential and random training methods to learn backstroke swimming for beginners

Author(s):

Ammar Nasser Hayat

Abstract:

The research aims to identify effect of sequential and random training method to learn backstroke swimming performance and skills (arm movements-leg strokes-breathing-overall coordination) for beginners, and superiority of either method (sequential or random) in mastering learning backstroke swimming performance (arm movements-leg strokes-breathing-overall coordination) for beginners. The researcher used experimental method with two equivalent groups, as it is most appropriate method that gives logical results. The research sample was selected intentionally at a rate of (44.44%) from original research community, and by lottery, with a number of (16) learners, who were divided into two equal experimental groups, each group consisting of (8) learners. The first group learns to perform backstroke swimming using sequential exercise method, while second group learns to perform backstroke swimming using random exercise method. The educational curriculum was applied to two experimental groups, and application of curriculum took (4) weeks at a rate of two educational units per week, duration of each educational unit (70) minutes. The application of educational curriculum began on Monday, and continued until Wednesday. After collecting data, treatment statistics using statistical program (SPSS). The researcher concluded through study following: The use of two educational methods (sequential, random) had a significant and effective impact on learning achievement. Backstroke swimming performance of study sample.
