Abstract:

This research aims to identify the level of performance of the forehand and backhand strokes among junior table tennis players, and to study the relationship between this performance and certain selected biomechanical variables. These variables include the angle of trunk forward inclination, the elbow joint angle of the playing arm, the angular velocity of the shoulder joint, and the total performance time. The researcher used the descriptive method with the survey and correlational approach for its suitability to the nature of the study. The sample consisted of (10) junior players from Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf Governorate, selected intentionally in a comprehensive manner. High-speed motion recording and biomechanical analysis programs were used to extract the mechanical values, in addition to relying on evaluations from specialized experts to determine the technical performance level of both strokes. The results showed significant correlations between the performance level of the forehand and backhand strokes and all the biomechanical variables. It was found that the elbow angle, trunk inclination, and total time were the most influential in performance. The results also indicated that uncontrolled increases in the angular velocity of the shoulder joint are negatively associated with performance quality, especially among juniors who lack precise motor control. Overall, the findings point to the importance of relying on biomechanical analysis in training the basic strokes and developing training programs based on an accurate understanding of the mechanical factors influencing the performance of junior players.
